Let It Be Treat and Not Trick!

The witching hour is almost here, little goblins may soon grace your doorway, and the holidays are just around the bend!  It is a special and exciting time, but it can sometimes cause us to get on the wrong path with our eating habits. Just one little treat from the Halloween basket and the trip down the path to eating 2 months of sugary foods suddenly begins.  Many of us have been there and done that, and as tasty as holiday tidings are, they leave us feeling a little less on track with our goals than we'd like. That's when the resolution making begins.  Sound vaguely familiar?  But what if I told you that there is a different path you can travel over these next few wonderful, busy and tasty months?  You can choose a new path and still enjoy every bit of the holiday season.    Read More

Lesson of the Red Crayon

...Whenever we are trying to make lifestyle changes to support our health and life/work balance simply telling ourselves  to “eat healthy” or “exercise more” is too big of a task, and the overwhelm of seeing the huge task looming before us gets us stuck.  What exactly does “eat healthy” mean?  What does “exercise more” look like?  And how exactly do I “manage stress”. .... Stuck in Place

Do you have those areas in your house that you walk past every day but rarely see?  I have just such a place by my backdoor.  I go in and out of that door countless times a day, but rarely do I "see" the things stored on the shelves just beside the door on the porch.  The collection of shoes, gardening tools, treasures from nature lay in a hodgepodge type of organization.  If I need my clippers I know exactly where they are; however, to the untrained eye, finding my clippers would involve a 15-minute search. One day this past week, as I was coming into the house, something in the hodgepodge of belongings looked odd. Read More

Thoughts on Cucumbers and Good Bacteria

Way back in early spring a new package of cucumber seeds arrived in my seed order. I was excited to be planting the seeds that would yield wonderful vegetables to enjoy in the hot summer months, and I was even more excited to be digging in the dirt. When Two Negatives Do Not Equal a Positive

Exercise is a word that invokes many emotions, not all of them positive. While some folks get downright giddy at the thought of their daily exercise routine and pack their gym bags the night before, for many of us the thought of exercise causes stomach churning anxiety and any excuse to avoid moving is deftly utilized. Just like momma, poppa and baby bear, we find ourselves waiting for the perfect moment to exercise. If it is too hot, too cold, too humid, too early, too late, too soon after eating or too soon after waking, we delay getting up and moving and settle back down onto our built in glutial cushion. We soon discover that the time to get up and move is never “just right” for us. Read More
